The Carroll Township Board of Supervisors is seeking letters of interest from residents interested in appointment to the Carroll Township Zoning Hearing Board. Applicants must be residents of Carroll Township, be willing to serve a term of up to three (3) years, and be available to attend meetings as needed to decide zoning applications as filed. Appointment will be until the end the vacant position’s term. Knowledge and experience in local government zoning and planning is preferred. Applicants may hold no other elected or appointed office in the Township, nor may any applicant be an employee of the Township.
The Zoning Hearing Board has jurisdiction to hear and render final decisions on the following type of matters:
- Applications for a variance or a use by special exception.
- Challenges to the validity of a land use ordinance, including those raising procedural questions or alleging defects in the enactment process
- Appeals to a determination from a zoning officer, municipal engineer, or agency on preliminary opinions, floodplain determinations, transfers of development rights, or administration of sedimentation and erosion control or stormwater management
Those appointed will receive a modest compensation amount set in accordance with state and local law.
